American Songbook High School Competition

American Songbook High School Competition

Natalie Douglas, Education Director of the Mabel Mercer Foundation, hosts the 8th annual event where twelve finalists showcase their talents through performances of beloved classic popular standards, judged by esteemed industry professionals. Sponsored by the Adela and Larry Elow Endowment Fund, this initiative encourages teenagers to explore and interpret songs from The Great American Songbook, composed between 1900 and 1970. Each year, the program awards cash prizes, including $2,500 for first place, $1,500 for second, and $1,000 for third, honoring the outstanding abilities of three students from New York City’s performing arts high schools. It's a unique opportunity to witness and celebrate the emerging young talents of today.

Mabel Mercer Foundation is celebrating its 40th anniversary of preserving and promoting the intimate art of cabaret, its timeless songbook, and the legacy of Mabel Mercer.
